VTU 8th semester Electronics students have some good news. These are a list of companies who are offering Project at their premises. Companies like Texas instruments, NXP semiconductors are some of the companies who are offering Design Projects.
Here are the few companies/institutes who have invited to register for their design contests:
1. NXP Semiconductors has announced the launch of Cortex - M0 design competition named "LPC1100 Cortex - M0 DESIGN CHALLENGE". This is a global design challenge that is open to students, embedded developers and entrepreneurs from all over India and the rest of the world.
"This initiative from NXP Semiconductors is designed to boost the Indian Electronic System Design and Manufacturing Ecosystems by making available the latest Cortex-M0 processor-based 32-bit microcontrollers and tools, giving the Indian design community an opportunity to develop world-class products that can compete with global peers", said Ashok Chandak, Senior Director, Global Sales and Marketing, NXP Semiconductors India.
NXP Semiconductors will provide free LPCXpresso development tools to qualified contestants who apply to enter the "LPC1100 Cortex-M0 Design Challenge". The worldwide Design Challenge is scheduled to run from Jan 25 to June 7, 2010. Participants are invited to register their entry by visiting the web link: www.lpc1100challenge.com
There are three phases, In Phase I, contestants need to provide a valid abstract, title and block diagram of their potential design. Qualified entries will receive a FREE LPCXpresso LPC1114 development board. The Phase II and Phase III is more about building prototype. The final winners have a chance to win over US$10,000 in Apple gift cards. Last date for submission is March 31 2010.

5. Another semiconductor company, which is also active in student related design contest for India is Cypress Semiconductor. When we contacted Cypress, they could not confirm the date but are working on the details of 2010 competition. Check with them at www.cypress.com
Projects are no more a plain academic requirements, now they can lead you directly to the cream of engineers who will be preferred for employment in some of the best companies in electronics and semiconductor industry.
If your dream is to build products by becoming entrepreneur, then your award winning B.E. project may lead you to get some preference while getting funds from Dept. of IT of Government of Karnataka. Karnataka has recently announced interesting sops for fresh talents in electronics engineering who are aspiring to become entrepreneurs. If you have zeal in establishing own firm in the field of semiconductor chip design, embedded system and any other interesting electronics hardware, check this link below, which provides details on newly announced Karnataka Semiconductor Policy. This policy supports young entrepreneurs in electronics.
