Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has once again shown its negligence. But, this time it is a more humiliating one. It awarded MBA degrees to 15 “failed” students at the annual convocation held on January 7.
This came to light when a RTI activist filed a complaint with the Belgaum Rural Police on February 21.
The most incredible thing about it is that the VTU authorities are describing it as a “simple error”. The incident has not only added another mark to the already tarnished image of the only technological university of the State.
The VTU has asked the concerned students to surrender their degree certificates immediately, but only after an RTI activist registered a complaint with the Belgaum Rural Police. In fact, the VTU administration has virtually denied responsibility and has blamed the “software”.
according to a report, the error was due to the corruption of a software supplied by a reputed company. The software failed to show “failed” results and in general it is used only for ‘online examinations' conducted for MBA and M.Tech. programmes.
The VTU has written letters to the concerned students to submit their degree. And to investigate the whole faux pas, The VTU has formed a 3 member Committee.
